A Latter-Day Prophet

Today I had the idea to share a poem I wrote that I hold very dear to my heart.  I wrote this when I was about 18.

A Latter-Day Prophet
By: Rachel McKernan
A young contemplative boy confused
By the many different religious sects and doctrinal fudes
A scripture struck him deep to the heart one day
And he knew he must ask God of the truth in faith
He retired to a secluded area in the woods on a beautiful spring day
He knelt on his knees, and to our Father in Heaven, began to pray
A light descended from above
God once again speaking to his daughters and sons
A faithful young boy-not yet a man
Commanded to be an instrument in our Heavenly Father’s hands
The light was so glorious and bright-as though the leaves would catch fire
But the reverends, priests, and people labeled him nothing but a liar
All the persecution and malice
The young boy had not asked for this
Why condemn him for telling the truth?
This young, obscure boy just entering his youth
Joseph never denied it once
He endured to the end
Made the complete ordinances of Christ’s gospel available to the children of men
Joseph prophesied, “I go like a lamb to the slaughter”
A few days later in Carthage Jail, the latter-day prophet was martyred
Joseph Smith’s mission on this earth was complete
He gave this world all the understanding and truth we would ever need
His life had been in the hand’s of our Father above
The faithful prophet’s testimony was sealed in his blood
He resides with the prophets of old in glory
He shall be resurrected and exalted on the glorious first morning!

Engaged!

Yes everyone, David and I are engaged!  It is going to be a rather small ceremony. We are not sending out invitations or having a reception until we go through the Temple next year.  Then we will get invitations out and celebrate!  I would love to possibly be sealed in the Gilbert, AZ Temple if it is finished being built by that time.
If not, then Mesa it is!  I want to take this time to tell everyone why I love my fiance' David McKernan so much.  First, and foremost:  He is the most handsome man alive!
He makes me laugh everyday.  He has an amazing sense of humor, yet still knows when to be serious.  He has always loved me no matter what.  David has never judged me and let me make changes in my life [that were much needed] on my own.  He LOVES THE GOSPEL.  I learn things from him everyday.  David is a good friend and is always helping others around him.  He puts others first Sensible is David's middle name.  He balances me and makes me see things from a different perspective which I feel is usually the better one, although he might say otherwise.  He appreciates and cherishes me, and I in turn appreciate and cherish him.  He plays with Emma all the time and helps me teach her and discipline her.
David doesn't have a temper and never raises his voice at me.  We never argue and if we have a disagreement, are always able to talk through it.  He loves my cooking! Their is so much more I could say about why I love this man and why I know he is supposed to be my husband.  One of the main things I want to express in this blog is how eternally grateful I will always be for meeting him.  I look forward to our journey and whatever life may bring us [good or bad].  I'm not afraid.
I LOVE YOU FOREVER DAVID!!!
